AL LUBEL - 23rd May
US star AL LUBEL drops into Windsor’s Firestation Centre for Arts & Culture for some Friday night comedy on 23rd May.
Winner of the Grand Prize for comedy on US TV’s Star Search and regular guest on the Tonight Show and David Letterman, AL LUBEL became a lawyer to please his mother and a comedian to please himself.
Lawyer by day and comedian by night, Al was doing justice to neither. So he quit the law.
This was a good decision, because within a year he won the $100,000 Grand Prize for comedy on Star Search.
Doing the "The Tonight Show" was a childhood fantasy, so when Al heard that Johnny Carson was retiring; he auditioned and became one of the last comics to appear with Johnny, more recently making his fifth appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman.
Last year he brought his 4-star solo show, ‘Mentally Al’ to Edinburgh – winning the Amused Moose Laughter Award as well as an army of new fans. So much so that he returns to the UK for a limited time only.
“Al Lubel, who is a very good comedian, has one of the best jokes I have ever heard.” – Jerry Seinfeld
“Al Lubel is a terrifically funny comedian.” David Letterman
Joining Al is another Edinburgh award winner – victor in the prestigious Foster’s Best Newcomer Award, JOHN KEARNS wowed all comers with his surreal exploration of masculinity and solitude. His show recently transferred to a residency in the prestigious Soho Theatre.
Undoubtedly the hottest name on the comedy circuit right now, John is a creative genius with an alternative yet strangely accessible character that it is impossible not find hilarious and lovable in equal measure.
“Now THIS is how you do absurd comedy... a bold, hilarious debut... he has forged comedy gold”***** Steve Bennett - Chortle
“A true comedy original” ****TimeOut
Hosting the evening is STUART LAWS. A long-time collaborator with Laughing Coyote, Stuart will MC this night in his own inimitable style before returning the following week with his tour show – STUART LAWS WILL NOT STOP EVER UNTIL YOU ARE DEAD (1 hour show) –
“very funny” The New York Post
“laughs come thick and fast…definitely one to watch” Fest
“He engages with people masterfully and the whole thing feels impulsive and original” New Kid
Completing the bill is MARK RESTUCCIA – comedian, actor, sketch-writer – Mark has a quirky offbeat style combined with sharp jokes that cut through his awkward demeanour.
“Corking lines to satisfy, all delivered with unwavering faith” Steve Bennett – Chortle
”His act was like a Royal toilet - always polished but often filthy” Channel4.com Comedy Police Review
“Like Jimmy Carr ... when he was fresh, he produces comedy by inverting normal day to day topics into funny yet sickening punchlines" Three Weeks
