GEORGE EGG: Anarchist Cook - PLUS Bec Hill
George Egg presents a stand-up comedy show unlike anything you’ll have seen before.
A demonstration of extreme multi-tasking. At the risk of giving too much away, it’s a show where a comedian talks for an hour while simultaneously cooking a three course meal (a good meal!) using the things you’d find in a budget hotel room.
A bit of history… Some years ago, disillusioned with the food on offer in the high streets and on the room service menus of the UK, stand-up comedian George Egg took matters into his own hands. He started cooking food in his hotel room using the unconventional ‘kitchen’ equipment that they provided – irons, kettle, sink, minibar, hairdryer, heated towel rail, …trouser press.
George made some short films and uploaded one of them to YouTube. It went viral garnering over 120,000 hits, international praise and celebrity admiration and even catapulting him towards an appearance on American radio (The Splendid Table – American Public Media) where he discussed his techniques and his reasons.
He’s performed his cooking live alongside Robin Ince at the secular Christmas variety show ‘Nine Lessons and Carols for Godless People’. He’s cooked on stage at Glastonbury Festival. He’s cooked as a guest in Alex Horne’s ‘The Horne Section’ and in ‘Dave Gorman’s Screen Guild’.
In May of this year George premiered this show ‘George Egg: Anarchist Cook’ at the Brighton Festival Fringe, where the show was a total sellout and was nominated for BEST COMEDY SHOW in the Latest Awards.
One man, one hour, three courses.
Opening the show is Laughing Coyote favourite - Australian comedian and cartoonist BEC HILL.
Bec comes armed with some lovely stories – punctuated with her beloved puns – as well as some of the most inventive live animation of her own flip chart creations. She possesses a refreshing blend of charm, whimsy and infectious enthusiasm, which has gained a cult-following in Australia and the UK. But what makes her unique is her skilful ability to bring her “arts and craft” imagination to life on stage.
After gaining in reputation over the last few years Bec recently won two awards at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with her shows, “Bec & Tom’s Awesome Laundry” and “Bec Hill: Ellipsis”.
